Welcome to our blog: Champions of Change UAlberta!

Updated: Sep 18, 2019

Welcome to the Champions of Change UAlberta blog! We are a student group raising awareness and funds for PLAN International and global issues through various on-campus and social media efforts.

PLAN International is a humanitarian organization with many different projects across the globe in 8 core areas: education, healthcare, water and sanitation, protection against violence, economic security, emergencies, child participation, and sexual health. The organization works to promote children’s rights and break the cycle of poverty. PLAN aims to help the most vulnerable children while promoting girls rights. The organization works in 50 developing countries across Africa, Asia, and the Americas. You can learn more about PLAN and their international efforts on their website: https://plancanada.ca/.

Members of our executive team for the 2019-2020 school year include: Gurreet Bhandal, Rupali Manek, Rakhbeer Boparai, Manny Brar, Amaan Lalani, Zeyad Elsalhy, Kelsey MacLeod, Nicole Chan, Faith Trinh, Aiman Saqlain, Nafisa Atiah, and Katie Palamarek. Our associate members include: Neha Vashist, Arash Saini, and Devon Portz.

As a student group, we hope to allow members of our campus the opportunity to engage in opportunities to increase their sense of global awareness and learn more about the multifactorial nature that is characteristic of many issues around the world. On our blog, we will write posts about events and initiatives taken by our club on the University of Alberta campus and in the community as well as information about global issues and PLAN International’s humanitarian efforts. It is our hope that you, as readers, learn more about issues such as girls rights, healthcare and education disparities, water sanitation, child marriage, and many more topics from a variety of different perspectives and voices. In turn, we hope that you, too, are inspired and motivated to help us make an impact on the lives of those who are less fortunate.

Join us on our journey of advocacy and stay tuned for future blog posts!
